Woodio® brings a sustainable edge to Mclaren’s End of Trip facilities

The Mclaren office building by Bruntwood is a premium commercial development in the centre of Birmingham, just minutes from the city's New Street station and its future HS2 terminal. Built with future connectivity in mind, the building is, as they’ve put it, ‘a place for businesses to grow, connect and rise to new opportunities’.

The development has been designed with wellbeing and functionality front and centre. From bright, inspiring and open-planned working spaces to onsite amenities such as a fully-fitted gym, secure bike storage and End of Trip facilities, the Mclaren building is transforming what an office space can be.

It’s within the building’s End of Trip facilities that Woodio® plays an integral role, bringing the space together with its winning combination of sustainable form with contemporary

Woodio® Solid takes centre stage

The development’s End of Trip facility is built around a restrained grey palette across the floors and walls, offset by a swash of vibrant orange on the ceiling. Against this backdrop, the Woodio® Solid Sheet in Arctic introduces texture and sustainability.

The vanity unit along the side wall, where our solid sheet material has been cut and mitred to form a seamless vanity beneath the mirrors, acts as the focal point of the space. Its stone-like surface delivers a strong architectural presence while complementing the calm impression of the wider palette.

The material continues through the towel station, where it has been fabricated into cubby holes and countertop with a tall upstand. Here, Woodio® brings both elegance and durability to a highly functional element, ensuring visual continuity across the facility. The Arctic finish contrasts with the soft grey cabinetry while quietly reinforcing the design scheme established with the vanity.

Complementary pieces for design consistency

Alongside the solid surface material, we supplied our Soft40 Wall Hung Basin and Block Wall Hung Toilet, both in Char, to continue Woodio’s subtle presence throughout the washrooms and shower areas.

In the shower area, the smoky basins stand out against vivid orange tiles, while in the universal toilets, the basins and toilets become bold focal points against the orange walls and charcoal tiles. Together, they reinforce the materials versatility, delivering statement pieces that feel perfectly at home in both shared and private spaces.

Sustainability in the modern workplace

Mclarens End of Trip facility reflects a growing shift in commercial design as more and more businesses seek improved employee wellbeing and better sustainability practices.

Woodios solid wood composite is a natural fit - made from wood chips bound with resin, it is lightweight, waterproof, and significantly less carbon-intensive than traditional ceramics or stone. Better yet, the material’s sustainable form also results in a striking appearance that instantly elevates any design scheme.

To put it simply, the material offers a sustainable alternative that meets the demands of commercial spaces without compromising on aesthetic ambition. And for architects and designers, it proves that making environmentally responsible choices can not only help achieve project goals but also enhance them.

Redefining commercial design with purpose

In Birminghams Mclaren building, Woodios Solid Sheet and sanitaryware don’t just look the part; they set the tone. Every material choice feels deliberate, turning the End of Trip facility into a space thats as practical as it is aspirational. Sustainability here isnt an afterthought; its part of the designs personality.

By weaving Woodio® into its premium workplace offering, Bruntwood isnt just following trends; its showing what the future of commercial design should look like - spaces where wellbeing, style, and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
